Coronavirus (COVID-19)

If you are planning on travelling distance to attractions, we would recommend that you contact the venues directly in advance to avoid disappointment.

If you, or any of your party have a new persistant cough, or develop a fever of 38C, we would instead advise you to use the NHS's dedicated website for professional advice.

East Lancashire Railway

The East Lancashire Railway operates a mainly steam hauled service between Bury, Ramsbottom and Rawenstall every weekend. This popular steam railway offers a day out for all the family. Not only do you get all the trimmings you expect on a heritage railway, you can break up your journey at any station to visit the shops at 'Dickensian Ramsbottom' or the famous Bury Market, then rejoin the train and complete your journey. Both Bury and Ramsbottom have line side viewing with picnic areas. The Ramsbottom picnic area is close by the River Irwell with its renowned sculpture trail. The railway normally operates at weekends and on Bank Holidays. The railway has won many awards and is the ideal place to take the children whatever the weather. Don't forget the special events including the Famous Teddy Bears Picnic on August Bank Holiday, Monday when all children travel free on the train if they carry a teddy. They can also enter the Teddy bear competitions and win a prize.
